Holiday Bible Week (HBW) provides an annual event in the summer for children aged 5 to 11 years in the Enfield area. The purpose of the event is to introduce children to Jesus in a relevant, contemporary way, in a safe and secure environment.
A similar event started in Bishops Stortford 20 years ago. Keith and Belinda Coote took part in it for a few years and they felt called to bring it to Enfield and to start a sister event. The first Holiday Bible Week (Enfield) was in August 2007 and was held at Oakwood Baptist Church.
There were 6 large tents and one huge marquee, called the 'Main Tent', where everyone gathered together at different times during the day. The theme was called Junior Heroes and everyone had the opportunity to sing, dance, play games and learn about stories from the bible.
In 2007 155 children attended HBW (Enfield) with around 40-50 adults and young people leading them. (All leaders over the age of 18 had Criminal Record Bureau checks completed before the start of the event). It was a great success and the event has continued in 2008. Holiday Bible Week (Enfield) took place in 2008 at Edmonton County Upper School on the A10 with the theme of Champions, very topical with the Olympics taking place at the same time.
There were over 220 children this year and we are greatly looking forward to 2009's event which is already being planned. HBW (Enfield) has no membership as such. All local Churches are invited to support the activities of HBW (Enfield) both financially and with resources such as helpers and materials. The planning of HBW (Enfield) is undertaken by a committee, with representives from many of the Churches in the local area.
